Admission High School students are admitted through their home school. Tuition Tuition is determined each year. Every effort is made to keep tuition to a minimum. Tuition for high school students is paid by their home school district. Internship Program An internship program is offered to those students who are near completion of their career tech training and meet specific qualifications. The program increases the student's learning opportunities and helps to ease the transition between school and employment. It allows students to begin part or full-time employment before graduation. The student may return to the classroom, if necessary, to complete competencies and/or polish skills. Certification/Diploma In order to receive a certificate/diploma at the end of the year or at the time you exit the program, you must fulfill the following criteria: (Secondary Students) 1. A minimum of 450 class hours for a one year program . Two year programs require 900 class hours total. 2. Earn a C average for the course. Faculty All members of Gibson Technical Center's faculty are certified by the State Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. They are committed to the district’s philosophy that the single unifying purpose of all personnel of the school district is to assist each student in his or her development. Every instructor is experienced in some form of career tech education. The instructor is expected to establish attainable goals for each student so that he or she may know some degree of success. Career Tech curriculum is based upon state and local validated competencies for each occupation. Student Conduct Upon enrolling at Gibson Technical Center, each student is obligated to conduct himself/herself in a manner compatible with Gibson Technical Center’s function as an educational institution. Each student is also to comply with the laws enacted by federal, state, and local governments. If this obligation is ignored by the student, then Gibson Technical Center, in the interest of fulfilling its function, must institute appropriate disciplinary action. A student handbook is issued for complete information, and itemized examples of misconduct that may subject a student to disciplinary action. Sexual Harassment Policy It is the policy of Gibson Technical Center, in accordance with providing a positive, discrimination free educational and work environment, that sexual harassment is unacceptable conduct and will not be condoned. Attendance Policy In order for a student to be successful at Gibson Technical Center he/she must be in attendance. A student’s grade and ability to reach his/her optimum level of performance is directly related to time spent on task in the classroom. The policy of the Gibson Technical Center is to monitor each student’s attendance every day. Penalties for absences will reflect in the student's grade. It is the responsibility of the student to know and understand the attendance policy of Gibson Technical Center. Probation Any student who has below a C average for the first quarter may be placed on probation for the second quarter to bring his/her grade up to a C average or better for the semester. If during this probationary time period his/her grade is not brought up to a C average or better, the student may be exited from the program.
