Welding is the most common method used to permanently bond metal parts. Because of its strength, welding is used to construct and repair ships, automobiles, appliances, and thousands of other products. This course is designed to prepare the students for entry level in the field of welding. Students enrolled in welding will learn basic welding skills: blueprint reading, layout and fit-up, oxy-fuel cutting, shielded metal arc welding, gas metal arc welding, gas tungsten arc welding, metallurgy and heat treatment, and plasma cutting. This two-year course provides an opportunity for the student to acquire experiences and technical knowledge at a skill level to enter the job force. Instruction is given in gas, stick, M.I.G., and T.I.G. welding processes. Related technical information presented in the classroom, coupled with practical welding experience, will provide saleable skills for the student. Practice in the preparation of metal for welds, methods of testing welds, and correct application of the proper rod is included in the course.
